LYON VS REAL MADRID 1-1

penbaihat

Real Madrid overcame some of their demons when they took home a draw from their first Champions League knockout game against Lyon. Having crashed out at the same stage to the same team last year, Real were worried, but played without fear, and now have a great chance of qualifying.
The game started slowly, with neither team willing to make a mistake and give their opponents an advantage. Consequently, Lyon played with nine men behind the ball, hassling and harrying whenever Madrid got into thier half with the ball, and ensuring there was no space for the likes of Ronaldo and Benzema to play in.
The first half came to a close with a Lyon charge led by Bastos and Gomis, but Carvalho and Pepe brought it to a quick halt.
An energized Madrid took the pitch for the restart and in no time wreaked havoc on the Lyon defence. Cristiano Ronaldo hit the left post with a free-kick and one minute later Ramos’ header following a corner kick taken by Ozil struck the top of the crossbar.
Around the hour mark, Benzema was thrown on for Adebayor. The Frenchman stole the ball on the left flank and passed to Ozil, who then found Cristiano. The Portuguese international pass the ball into the path of Benzema, who held off Reveillere and poked the ball through the keeper’s legs and into the back of the net.
Both teams made changes following the goal. Lass replaced Khedira and Marcelo stepped in for Ozil, while Pjanic came on for Lyon, who had a hand in the Lyon equaliser. The Bosnian curled in a free-kick, the ball struck off Cris’ head and Gomis fired the deflection into the net.
